Glass City Marathon Forecast

Thousands of people heading out for the 2016 Glass City Marathon will be very happy with this forecast! Sunday will be a dry day but with the early morning start, it will be chilly pre-sunrise.

Let's break down the forecasts by the major individual races. Starting with the 5k:

As is common for this race, given the time of the year and early morning starting time the 5k will be a chilly one! Race temps in the low/mid 40s.

In the longer races of the half and full marathon we will see a bigger impact by the sun as it gets warmer thoughout the races. Still, this will be a very comfortable racing temp with low humidity levels and relatively light winds.

A ESE wind of 5-10, perhaps up to 15mph will develop through the morning. During the marathon miles 17-20 and 22-25 will battle this as a headwind. Otherwise near ideal race conditions are expected.

Good Luck Runners!

The Cool Lake Breeze

WINDS:  4:00 PM WEDNESDAY

COOLER NEAR THE LAKE

CLOUDS NOT HELPING

Why is this week's warm up so slow?

The Lake Erie water temperature near Toledo is 39°.
Pretty easy to see why an east breeze will keep
air temperatures much cooler in lakeshore areas.
There is a noticeable difference in downtown Toledo.

An east breeze Thursday will reach 10-20 mph
with gusts to 25 mph.  Chilly even with sunshine.

FIRST ALERT DAY: Snow Forecast Update

Perhaps you waited all winter and never saw it, but the wallop of winter returns tonight and will blast the area with heavy bursts of snow.  Here is the updated snow accumulation map as of 11 AM.
Snow Accumulation Map
This will bring a widespread accumulation of several inches with lower amounts on the outer edges of the main heavier band.  There will be a very small and narrow "Sweet Spot" that will bring a small corridor of up to 5".  Please don't fixate on exactly where this heavier snow band is because its exact position likely won't be known until the snow develops this evening.

Heavy Snow Bursts & Thundersnow
The atmosphere is very favorable for heavier snow burst and also supportive of the possibility of thundersnow.  If you hear thundersnow, you will be in the vicinity of a very heavy snow squall that could bring snow rates of 1-2" per hour.

Winter Weather Advisories as of 11 AM
Snow in April is not all that rare, however in the last 20 years we have had over 1.0" of snow in April only TWICE (2005/2007).  Tonight could bring the greatest April snow in over 20 years! April of 1994 had 7.0" of snow in Toledo!

I hope you didn't put the snow shovels away!

Cool Clouds Wednesday Morning!

Did you catch some funky looking clouds Wednesday morning? They are called Undulatus asperatus.

But let's not get too technical. These clouds form on the flanks of thunderstorms. The rapid motions in the t-storms causes turbulence in the atmosphere. Think of it the same way as the waves created if you move your hand up and down in a pond of water. These clouds are the same as the ripples that move out of the center of that water.

Usually when you see these in the morning, you have a good idea it is going to be an unsettled weather day. Today is the perfect example with more thundershowers likely and gusty winds! Enjoy some pictures from around the area:
